The meaning of Liff och John Lloyd

John Lloyd!

Tio favoriter ur The Meaning of Liff, A-K

Aasleagh (n.) - a liqueur made only for drinking at the end of a revoltingly long bottle party when all the drinkable drink has been drunk.

Abilene (adj.) - descriptive of the pleasing coolness on the reverse side of the pillow.

Ahenny (adj.) - the way people stand when examining other people's bookshelves.

Corriearklet (n.) - the moment at which two people, approaching from opposite ends of a long passageway, recognise each other and immediately pretend they haven't. This is to avoid the ghastly embarrassment of having to continue recognising each other the whole length of the corridor.

Dipple (vb.) - to try to remove a sticky something from one hand with the other, thus causing it to get stuck to the other hand and eventually to anything else you try to remove it with.

Dorridge (n.) - Technical term for one of the lame excuses written in very small print on the side of packets of food or washing powder to explain why there's hardly anything inside. Examples include "Contents may have settled in transit" and "To keep each biscuit fresh they have been individually wrapped in silver paper and cellophane and separated with corrugated lining, a cardboard flap, and heavily industrial tyres."

Glinsk (n.) - a hat which politicians buy to go to Russia in.

Goosnargh (n.) - something left over from preparing or eating a meal, which you store in the fridge despite the fact that you know full well you will never use it.

High Offley (n.) - goosnargh three weeks later.

Kettleness (adj.) - the quality of not being able to pee while being watched.
